Monday...

So I have made the decision/commitment/ promise to myself that it is time to get back into living a more active lifestyle. I have let this important part of my life go to the wayside over the last year and I am really beginning to feel the effects. And see them for that matter. ugghhh....

I am a person that really does enjoy working out. Gosh, I feel so much better when I have a consistent routine of physical activity. Whether it is running, walking, or biking. When I was in junior high and high school I ran track so that is pretty much the type of exercise I resort to. Running is really one of those things that you love or hate and I happen to love it. I want to consider myself a runner again. There is nothing like lacing up my running shoes, putting on my favorite Nike hat, and setting my watch to calculate my time.

Why is getting started again so hard though?  I am dreading that part. Several years ago I trained for a marathon and at one point I could run 20 miles. 20 miles. I can't even run 3 now. I will be out of breath, I will have several days of aching muscles, and what I am looking forward to most of all is feeling all the untoned "muscle" jiggle. ugghh... sigh.

I suppose with warm days just around the corner and knowing that I will be spending time at the pool is what is spurring me on. Swimsuit shopping.... ugghhh.... I wonder how many times I can say that in this post. Are you sensing my depth of dread? I need the motivation though. And I suppose that I am hoping that there is some sort of accountability once you type the words on a blog.

I have decided to start working out again today. It's Monday. A new, fresh beginning. Time to make running or walking a part of my daily routine. Time to be watching more closely what I am eating and making wiser choices. Unfortunately that means giving up these...

Oh, how I love these peanut butter eggs. Pure deliciousness. I suppose that if I am really good about my exercise routine, one of these little bits of chocolate heaven wouldn't hurt. And they do only come out once a year. I have to justify it somehow.

Now off to this...

Happy Monday!

  1. Good luck on your new routine...I started mine at the beginning of the year. I was excited and going strong in the beginning and after my 2nd month, I started getting discouraged...but I promised to hang in there. I have always looked at working out/taking care of my body like having my quiet time. When you are out of the habit, its hard to get started and you "forget" how much you need it. Once you are in a routine, you can't imagine life without it and it changes your day, sometimes your mood and just life. So, just make yourself do it and soon enough your mind will follow! :)

  2. I want to start walking again... but I've cleaned things out and piled up so much stuff on my treadmill, it's going to take days to clean it off! But that's my goal for the week - clean out and put away the things I've put on the treadmill. I agree with you... uugggg... but it will be worth it. :-)

  4. Good for you! I have not been consistent about working out since my oldest was born and just go through sproadic attempts at it here and there. Haven't even done that lately. This winter has left me in a bad place of HORRIBLE eating habits and no excercise.
It's finally warming up here, and I've been giving this some thought myself.
I haven't even made the decision or committment yet, but I know its' something I need to do.

  6. I need to start back. Once you get in the routine, it's just part of your day. It's getting in the routine that's tough for me.
    Good luck with it.

  7. Even with all the uggghhh, you're very lucky that you actually enjoy the running! You're right, you either love it or you hate it. I hate it! My best friend loves it like you and I'm jealous. ;) The first step is always the hardest! It's all "uphill" from here! ;)

And the candy, yeah...yum! I only wish there weren't so many delicious treats that only come out "this time of year" all through the year! ha!

  8. I need to do the same thing! My daughter loves to run. For me, I enjoy taking walks...I just need to do it more often! I feel so much better when I do. Giving up the goodies is so hard. Best of luck. I'm in the same boat.

  10. Good luck! I was doing good at running in the mornings, but my husband has been traveling for the past few weeks and made it impossible! I sure feel better the days that I do go running though, I've felt pretty frumpy lately! I'm nervous I'm going to go through the whole stiff and sore phase when I start up again! your blog is darling!

  11. Amen to this post! :) I'm trying to get in a routine too. Something better always seems to come up when I am about to go to the gym! :)

  12. I am feeling your pain! I have been getting up to go to the YMCA 3 days a week and even today Dusty and I have been on vacation and I went to Jazzercise! I would love to run a marathon but like you I can't run even 1 mile. Good luck, start small and just do it.

  13. You go, girl!!

I've really been feeling the need to become more active, as well. I agree with you... it's always so hard to get started... ugh!

My hubby is teaching me how to play tennis - I get to spend time with him and exercise my flabby thighs at the same time... bliss!

  16. Dude you can totally do it! I remember that the first time I was introduced to you was because you were a runner and Lois thought you and I would hit it off! I'll make you a deal next time we are all together we will go for a run. Remember though I am like a diesel engine, slow and steady! Miss you guys!

  17. *Sigh*...I need to be doing this so folks at the pool don't get scared away by me!!!
What type of treadmill do you have and do you like it? I've been on the hunt for one to pop in my garage but haven't asked about for opinions yet. Let me know if you have found any options you can't live without on yours or things that aren't necessary...
    Happy day wishes~ Les

  19. Good luck - I happen to love running, also. My running partner is one of the best things that has happened to me. I NEVER miss when I know someone is depending on me.
