I am participating in a Spring Reading Thing being hosted by Callapidder Days. All I have to do for this challenge is to come up with a list of books to read between now and June 20th along with some reading goals that I have.
Since I was a little girl I have loved reading. I can remember having a bookshelf in my room lined with books that included everything from a set of encyclopedias to "Are You There God It's Me, Margaret?" My shelf was also lined with the classics like Charlotte's Web and Black Beauty. I loved my books and they were probably what I loved most about my room. Not only did I love reading books, but I also loved playing the part of a librarian. At one time, I went through every single picture book that my sister and I owned, put a number in the front, made a reference card for it and filed it in our card catalog so that we could play library. We had the best library on the block.
I am an avid reader and I always have a list of the books I want to read next. I have gone through times of not reading but more often than not, you will find a book in my hand. I love all genres of books too. Everything from cookbooks to historical fiction.

It was kind of hard for me to come up with some goals because honestly, reading just isn't something I find hard to do. Here a couple though...
~ I would like to read instead of watching T.V. in the evening. I don't know how I have let that darn T.V. creep into my life again.
~ I am going to choose some books that I normally wouldn't choose on my own. I typically choose Christian fiction but I would like to read some biographies and perhaps some other well known writers out there.
If you decide to take part in this, I would love to hear about it and know what you are going to be reading this Spring.

ReplyDeleteI also love to read, although I haven't been doing it very often the last several years. I tend to start a book and even though I enjoy it, it seems I rarely finish anymore!
Christy - those are some great goals. TV does seem to suck away my reading time also and I have enjoyed this past week where I have barely watched tv and read instead.
ReplyDeleteI also hear you on branching out. I read several different genres but don't tend to read biographies or too much non-fiction. I will have to work on that.

Christy, I was thinking about you during the night recently when I woke up (probably to go to the bathroom...ah, pregnancy!). :) Anyway, another book that I wanted to mention to you is Safely Home by Randy Alcorn. Maybe you've read it already? That was the first book by him that I read, but I found it very meaningful as well as gripping and entertaining. I highly recommend it!

I'm an avid reader, as well. Karen Kingsbury is probably my most favorite author of all :) Our local library has a GREAT selection of books so I enjoy that quite a bit. (I have too many books already and probably don't need to buy more!)

ReplyDeleteI know you JUST said that you are trying to read books that you usually haven't read, but since you like Christian fiction I thought I would see if you have read Karen Kingsbury's Redemption Series. Its my favorite! Actually ALL of her stuff is GREAT! I love the "A Time to Dance" and there is a sequel...I think its called a "A Time to Embrace"??? Can't remember, but they are both so good! Just thought I would pass along the info so if you need something you haven't read...and Christian fiction....her books are great!

I also like reading unusual stuff (out of my normal) at times.

I loved your "reading history" -- especially that you liked to be a librarian. :) Your list looks good -- I think you'll enjoy Stone Crossings. I really did. Daisy Chain was very good as well. And you and I are both reading All I Need is Jesus... and Sacred Chaos this spring!

ReplyDeleteLike you, I was a very avid reader when I was younger. We visited the library every couple weeks to every week as early as I can remember and by the time I was in late elementary school I was checking out a huge stack of chapter books each visit. I would read in the car (holding the book up to be illuminated by the headlights behind us if it was dark! ha!), as my mom shopped through the grocery store...I pretty much had a book in my hand almost all the time!

Have you ever read, "The Waiting Child"? It's a nonfiction story about Chinese adoption, but it is one of my absolute favorites! You'll laugh and cry and not be able to turn the pages fast enough. I would highly recommend it!
P.S. I forgot, will you please post quick reviews of your Spring Reading list books as you finish them? I'd love to hear which ones you recommend!
