Stars and Windows...

One of my favorite things to decorate with right now are stars and windows. It all started when my parents gave me these two window frames from their old house when they were replaced with new ones. This is a project that I did a few months ago to fill up a large space in out great room.

As far as I knew all the windows my parents had saved had been given away. I know that you can find these window frames at flea markets, thrift stores, and even garage sales if you are fortunate enough. I have seen them being sold from $35 to $60. I love the fact that that mine came from the house in which my parents lived. It's a great story isn't it?

Over Christmas, I got a phone call from my sister, Sarah telling me that my parents had more window frames in their garage and that she was going home with several of them. My parents weren't at all surprised when I called them and asked them if I could come over and get some too! I LOVE these windows!

While Sarah was here we went to a store here in town called the Flower Factory. They have some incredible deals sold at wholesale prices and you just never know what they are going to have. One thing they always have are these rustic stars in a variety of sizes and colors. This large one was only $9. Yes, $9.

These cream stars were just calling my name. I love all things cream and what I love even better is that each of these stars were under $2...

I actually ended up going back and getting several more along with some red and cream ones that I think will be so much fun for the 4th of July. Yes, I'm counting down for the warm days of summer.

So, tell me, what are your favorite things to decorate with?

  1. I love it!! I bet I know what house these came from!! Are they from my house? How cool! I have one above my fireplace that I picked out of my neighbors trash. I also have a star on it!! It is a star made from sticks. I will try to get a pic of it and post it so you can see it. I have more windows and I'm trying to decide what to do with them. I love your ideas!

  4. love the old windows and how you've used them in your home, I have a huge old window (from my in-laws old house)and am still deciding what to do with it, if you don't me asking did you keep the glass in the windows or remove it before displaying? just curious

  12. What great decorating ideas! I've lost my decorating "mojo" because we had to clean out our house to put it on the market. When we took it off the market, I enjoyed the open spaces so much, I never put my stuff back up. Now, I'm in a decorating dilema.

Actually, all of the ideas in the blogosphere are inspiring me to start over (and I'm sure my husband will be happy to hear that!) :-)

  15. How I love those windows! My hubby and I have been looking for some nice ones to fill a large space in our family room. How special that yours actually came from your parent's home! I love your style of decorating. The windows, the pictures, the stars, etc. Everything looks fantastic! Lots of inspiration here. (Taking notes...) You asked about some of our favorite things to decorate with...I love decorating with various assorted photo frames and old books. Our local library often sells them very inexpensively and they are loaded with character. = )

    Blessings,

  29. I like old windows too. :) I think it is really neat that your windows came from your parent's house. I was really lucky and got a few old windows for free off of Craigslist. That is another great place to find old windows & screens.
