Back In The Swing Of Things...

After being out of school for two days and then a 2 hour delay this morning, my kids are finally back at school. As many of you know, hurricane Ike made his way through Ohio. For many of my friends, power hadn't been restored until about 8:00 last night. We were so fortunate that we never lost power. Traffic lights are coming back on, gas stations, restaurants and local businesses are re-opening and the city we live in is starting to feel normal again.

It's really been a fun couple of days with kids. We've been able to sleep in a little longer, and have lunch together. The boys cleaned up the yard, and Ben even got to go play 9 holes of golf with his Dad. Surprisingly, there was a golf course about 30 minutes from here that was open.  Sam got to do his most favorite thing in the whole world- visit the Air Force Museum. The only day the museum is ever closed is Christmas.  Jessica enjoyed sleeping in and spending the night with her best friend.  Last night, we went to the high school soccer game. I think everyone was just really glad to be out and have some sense of normalcy.  Sam got to be one of the "ball boys." which was a pretty big deal:)

Today, I am off to run some errands. I will then come home and catch up on a bible study I am working on and perhaps even get a little cleaning in. I hope you have a good one!

  1. Christy, I've been so far behind reading blogs, but I've gotten caught up with yours now. Wow, that wind did some blowing, huh? It was pretty windy here in Arkansas too, but we didn't get as many trees down as you. Just a lot of leaves and a few limbs.

The apple butter making looks like such fun. My mom always makes muscadine (is that how you sp that??)

Oh, and I was so excited to hear that Sarah is expecting again. Now, I will have to head over to her blog and get caught up! Hope you have a great rest of the week. I will be getting things ready for our mission trip next week. Headed to Nebraska.

  5. you know what struck me, Christy? Was the sense of community that was felt going through all of this. I just love it when things like this happen and we pull together as neighbors, etc? I don't mean that I want natural disasters to occur, I just love to see people give and show thier hearts during things like this. Ironically, Katie only missed one day of school as we never lost power and I home school. I let her have off Monday to play with her friend Shannon. Oh, yeah, I am not feeling the love over at my blog, just so you know. :)

  8. What an awesome picture of you and your children!
I showed your downed-trees pictures to my hubby, because his parents had called from Southern Indiana to let us know that they lost 15 trees. One 10 feet from the house!
Glad you are getting back into the swing of things.....

I'm so happy that life is getting back to normal. Storms, of any kind, can really put a damper on the routine of life.
Enjoy a wonderful weekend with your family.

So glad you are joining in on the YES to GOD Tuesday study of "Behind Those Eyes"! Really, really looking forward to reading what God does in your life. I just think He's about to do some great things within all of us and I can barely stand the wait! :)
