It's a cold, dreary day here in Ohio. The perfect kind of day to curl up in my favorite spot, drink a cup of coffee, and read a great book. Here is what I am reading...
While staying at my sister's, I started reading this book as well. I read the first few chapters and really, really enjoyed it.
I have also been making my way through these cookbooks. I was able to check every one of Ina Garten's cookbooks out at our local library. Last night I made Roasted Shrimp and Orzo for our community group. It was really good, definitely one that I will make again. This will be a great dish for the warm days of summer.
I also enjoy finding out about other great reads, so tell me what are you reading now or what are some books you recommend?
You know how much of a reader I am. I just got wind of a new book that just came out and came to me VERY highly recommeded from a Christian friend of mine. It is called "The Shack" by Wm. Paul Young. It has so many reviews about it leaving you with an absolute craving for God's presence it would take me all day to tell you about them. It will be April's Book of the Month on my blog, so I will let you know then how it is. It is rainy here today too, so I am hoping to curl up myself!!
ReplyDeleteHappy Reading, and thanks for the post. I have never read either book, so I will have to give them a try!!
I am always looking for a new book to read- thank you!
ReplyDeleteThose look like some great cookooks- I love Ina!
Have you read 'Crazy Love' by Francis Chan? I really like that book.
Blessings~

ReplyDeleteI just finished reading When Crickets Cry by Charles Martin and LOVED it!
ReplyDeleteI really don't read that much, maybe it is because I am in Katie's school books all day? My sister recently recommended "The Shack" (she is a published writer, she has two Christian romances published..and is a way better speller than me as well..lol) I was thinking of checking "The Shack" out perhaps when my school day allows me too indulge :) The author of "The Shack" is actually a MK from the CMA
ReplyDeleteI love Barefoot Contessa-I watch her on tv but have never made a thing from her...she is soothing!

I love to read! I'll have to check out those books you are reading because they look good. I love Liz Curtis Higg's books based on the Bible story of Leah, Rachel and Jacob. It is a triology and I have read them twice. :)
ReplyDeleteSounds like some good reads! I love Lisa Samson too. The Church Ladies rule! I'll have to add these to my list (the ever growing list), they sound good. Vacation books for the summer, perhaps?
ReplyDeleteBlessings, friend.
These books --
ReplyDeleteThe One Year Christian History by Michael and Sharon Rusten
The Little Red Book of Wisdom by Mark DeMoss
Old Country Tales by Sholom Aleichem
and Satisfy My Thirsty Soul by Linda Dillow
are SOME of the ones I'm currently enjoying. I tend to read a lot of books simultaneously. :)
And I didn't even mention the ones I'm reading to my kids!
I hope you do indeed get some time to curl up and read today!
I love reading Karen Kingsbury and just started he new book "Take One". I love everything that she writes.
ReplyDeleteI will have to try this one that you are reading though. Looks good.

Oh, there is nothing better than a rainy day and a good book. I love Elizabeth Elliot. I have been to several womens conferences where she has been the speaker and sheer Godly wisdom just oozes from her.
ReplyDeleteTell your sweet sis, we are so thrilled for their blessing. :)
PS. Lots of mixed theological reviews about the Shack...it's wonderful to know that there are so many giving it serious thought in so many ways. I love iron sharpening iron.
Right now I'm near the end of "Fresh Wind, Fresh Fire" by Jim Cymbala...excellent. I'm also finishing up "The Shack".
ReplyDeleteI heard last night at my small group that cookbook sales are up right now because of the economy...more people are eating at home instead of going out! Families together around the table..not a bad thing!
I'm going to check out the choices you shared. They all sound really good.
Ooooh, thanks for sharing a read you are enjoying! I borrowed a new book from a friend in our community group but my hubby stole it before I even started it, so now I have to wait until he finishes before I start it or we'll be playing snatch the book in bed at night. ;)
ReplyDeleteI just finished Redeeming Love a couple of weeks ago. It had been on my want to read list for years, literally, and I finally borrowed it from a friend. I really enjoyed it! But, you've probably already read that one!
I really like memoirs and non-fiction and a book that surprised me with how much I enjoyed it was Homesick by Sela Ward. I'm not a Sela Ward fan necessarily, but I came across it at the library and it looked interesting so I picked it up.
Roasted Shrimp Arzo - another reason to be in your Community Group. Spoiled! :) And the book by Elisabeth Elliot looks great. Blessings Auntie. :)
ReplyDeleteI am doing two bible studies right now. Conversation Peace by Mary Kassian and BSF we are doing Moses. I have been doing lots of that reading. I also have been reading a book that Dusty got me for Christmas called Jessie by Lori Wick. It is ok!
ReplyDeleteI love anything by Francine Rivers, Laurraine Snelling and Linda Nichols, they are all good reads.
If you find any good books for a small group of single women (some divorced and some single) let me know. I am always looking for a good study. We did Behind Those Eyes with Lisa Whittle and they loved it.
Oh, I just love a good book! You know I do! I would recommend "The Shack" by Young, "Stepping Heavenward" by Elizabeth Prentiss and definitely "Redeeming Love" by Francine Rivers.
ReplyDeleteI just started reading "Tender Mercy for a Mother's Soul" by Angela Thomas Guffy and am enjoying it too! It's fun to be able to read mother/parenting books!
Christy - I left you something on my blog today.
ReplyDeleteThanks for always being a blessing. From one Pastor's wife to another. You inspire me!
In Him, Beth
The Shack is an excellent book, but I love Karen Kingsbury. she is a great christian author and has a series of books out right now called the Redemption series that I am reading! Truly wonderful!
