What Cooler Days Bring...

We have found ourselves inside the last couple of days due to the fact that here in Ohio we are having anything but hot summer days. The temperatures have been somewhat cooler and the sun seems to have found a home behind the clouds the past couple of days. I know that I shouldn't be complaining because these cooler, overcast days have caused me to get some things done around the house. Important stuff like cleaning out closets and desk drawers. It has also given me the opportunity to sit here at my desk this morning and write a new post. I haven't been blogging much these days, so for all of you faithful readers out there, I appreciate you still following along! So, perhaps just one more day of being inside isn't such a bad thing. I just took the dogs outside and the sun is shining and I do feel some humidity in the air once again. Maybe warmer temperatures are just around the corner and I can sit by the pool, drink iced tea, watch the boys play and enjoy my summer reading.

I am currently reading The Moment Between by Nicole Baart. This is definitely unlike any book I have ever read, but I m really enjoying it and it is one I recommend. She is a very talented and creative writer.  I love books that are unpredictable and have really strong character development. You know, where you feel this connection to the characters and you find yourself thinking about them even after you have closed the book for awhile. I have made a few orders with Amazon over the summer and let me just say that it's pretty much the highlight of my day when I see the mailbox with a brown box inside. Yes, I love my books! Because I love hearing about good books to read, I thought I would pass onto you some of the books I have recently added to list of books I want to read...

The Power of Praying For Your Adult Children by Stormie Omartian. With having an 18-year old daughter who is leaving home this September, I am thinking this is exactly what I will need. Oh, the power of prayer!

The Time Traveler's Wife  by Audrey Niffenegger. Although I generally stick to Christian fiction, I thought I would give this a try. It is now a movie, and from the previews, it looks pretty good. The book is always better than the movie too, right? Have any of you read it?

Of course, there has to be a couple of cookbooks thrown in here, so check out Coming Home With Gooseberry Patch and Ina Garten's Back To Basics.

If there are any good books you have read this summer, I would love for you to leave me a comment. Until then, enjoy the summer days, no matter what the temperatures outside may be, and enjoy those books!

  2. Hey friend~
It's been cool here too! In fact, this past weekend it was 60 or so...we wore pants and sweatshirts..brhh.

Today, it's raining...and cool...we've had an odd summer so far....not many hot days...and to think..in the north here...August brings very cool evenings...so our summer has been very weird.

It's always so good to see a new post from you!!

    Enjoy your summer....with your family.

  5. LOVED loved loved loved The Time Travelers Wife. If I didn't also love Rachael McAdams, I wouldn't want to see the movie, but I want to see if they even came close to doing the book justice. Can't wait to hear what you think of it.

And hasn't it been bizarre weather in Ohio? we just came home from there, and I loved every minute of it.

  6. Hi Christy! Nice to hear how you are doing! I have not been blogging as much as before, either, and I do miss it! But the things that are taking it's place are good things...family and travel and my sweet little babies. I'm sure you are doing the same thing! I am glad to hear of the book you ordered about praying for an adult child. Sounds like a book I need to remember for the future. How about one for praying for your almost-three-year-old who is stubborn and strong willed? :)

Anyway, great to "see" you! Enjoy that iced tea and pool time if you can get it!

  8. It has been cooler here in Kansas for the last couple of days too. Still warm enough for shorts though but not warm enough to set by the pool with a nice cold diet coke! Thanks for the info on the books. I have been reading the Character Makeover book, it has been wonderful. I have been doing a study with 7 of my daughters teen friends with it and and it has been fun (the teen version is called "Being Real in a Fake World". for fun I just finished a Jane Austin book called Proper Pursuit.Dusty has been gone to Alaska since the 6th, he comes home tomorrow. It has been soooo lonely.
Anyway, glad to see you back on here.Enjoy the rest of the summer.

  10. Cool here in Indy as well! Felt like fall this past weekend. Had to keep reminding myself not to get out the pumpkin scented candles!
I miss my blogging time too *sigh*. The colder months will be upon us soon enough and I am sure I will have more time to put down my thoughts. I did get to visit w/ my friend Paula's twins she adopted from Ethiopia. If you get the opportunity hop over to my blog to see the picture. They are darling little things.

Love Ina Garten... I have all her cookbooks!

Thanks for the other recommendations... I have been re-reading the Mitford books this summer. LOVE THEM!

  13. Summer reading must be a topic of choice this week. Smile. I have been reading the Mark of the Lion series by Francine Summers. Utterly fabulous, totally real characters, you know, those kind that make you think "That is SO me..." This series is a total must read. The 3 books are around $23 for the boxed set and worth every penny.

Good luck with the Time Travelers Wife, I couldn't keep up. But they always make good books into movies don't they? My Sister's Keeper was one of them.
