Camping...

I've only been camping once in my life. It really is something that I would like to again as my first experience was really was a pleasant one. That is, aside from the raccoon (that I thought was a big, hungry bear of course) that was scratching on our tent through the evening. I'm not sure why we haven't camped as a family because I sure do like the idea of sitting around a campfire, talking, and of course, making plenty of s'mores.

My husband on the other hand has been camping numerous times. And when I say camping, I mean roughing it in the truest sense. Several years ago, my husband along with one of his best friends began making hiking trips along the Appalachian Trail. At this time, Steve and his friend have completed the entire southern portion of the trail. One day, he hopes to have completed the whole trail.  While their trips have lasted one to two weeks, it isn't uncommon for them to put in 10-15 miles per day of hiking. Come nightfall, they then make their way to a designated area and call it a night. Sometimes they do take tents, but most often they just prefer sleeping in a hammock. I'm not so sure I could do that. In fact, there is no way I could.

I think that if I were going to rough it, my campsite would look something like this...

If you are looking for a fun website to peruse through, this is where the tent came from.

And if I decided I wanted to camp out in a little more extravagant way, I think I would perhaps choose this...

Oh, I should probably mention that this camping site is located on the beautiful island of Maui, Hawaii.  Can it really get any better than that?

Have a great weekend friends!

  1. My idea of camping is a lot like yours! I've only been camping once as well, and that was in college for a required science class. I love the first picture...too cute. Our tent didn't look that pretty as I recall.

  2. I'm usually willing to camp as long as there is a portable restroom. I'm married to an Eagle Scout and he's like your husband...roughing it all the way.

Although...I could get into the type of camping you posted about here. lol
