Glimpses Of Fall...

This morning when I was making the bed I looked out our window and saw this...

I know this isn't the greatest of pictures, but if you look closely you will see the leaves that are starting to turn colors. Even though it has been in the upper 80's the past few days, I know that the cool and crisp days of autumn are quickly approaching. It's not uncommon here in Ohio to have temperatures in the 80's through October and I remember one year we even had snow.

This weekend I was out and bought some mums...

The change of seasons between summer and fall is my favorite I think. One reason is because I absolutely love the colors- browns, golds, and reds. We have many trees around us so I'm hoping for a spectacular show of colors this year in spite of the dry summer we've had.

Even though I love the care free days of summer and pretty much no schedule to follow, I am ready for a routine again. Soccer practice and games, guitar lessons, youth group, and bible study are all things that are being put on the calendar again. I find comfort in a routine.

Once the cooler days approach I know it's time to bring out my favorite soup recipes. I think I could have soup every night of the week. It's also time to bring out the recipe for pumpkin bars, chocolate chip pumpkin cookies, and pumpkin whoopie pies. Yum!

I really am more of a homebody so that is another reason why I love this time of year so much. I'm ready to sit by the fire in the evenings playing games as a family, reading a book, or watching a movie. I'm ready to make our home look and smell like fall. Mums and pumpkins by the front door, and leaves and pumpkins set upon the mantle. Yesterday I brought out my favorite candle for this time of year- caramel apple. Even though it was almost 90 degrees outside, it felt like fall inside.

Yes, I'm ready for fall. Maybe I'll spend the day gazing out my bedroom window knowing it soon will be here.

  1. It felt relaxing just looking at those photos...I love the trees changing their leaves! Your mums look great, too. How do you keep them alive? I buy mine and they look great but then something goes wrong and I never know if I've watered them too much, too little, too much sun, etc.

I am with you...I love the cozy aspects of fall more than anything! Have a great day!

Your mums look beautiful, and I'm so looking forward to picking some up myself!! (hopefully this weekend)

Our temps have already begun to change...this morning it was 52 as we headed out the door for our day! Ooh...I LOVE these crisp fall days!

You'll have to be sure to share some of your soup recipes...as we too enjoy soup this time of the year.

  4. Oh, Christie, I meant to tell you the other day when I saw your bedroom, how much I loved the window above the bed. Imagine this winter, turning around and seeing the snow falling from that window? Hey, maybe Steve could even bring you some hot chocolate in bed?? I understand the routine, but the older I get, I long to just "mix things up a bit".. I used to be all about the routine :) Love your mums :)

  6. Thanks for stopping by my blog this week, I have enjoyed looking through your site and let me just say..."We could be sisters"! In fact, I thought I was reading my own profile till I got to the part about ice tea (I don't like it at all!) Seriously, I am truly amazed at how much we have in common. I will be sure to link to you and come back to visit often.

Have a great rest of the week.....

  7. Christy, I love fall, too. Autumn is my favorite time of the year! I've added mums to my front porch planters, and I've pulled out one white pumpkin, but I haven't pulled out the rest of my fall accessories yet. (But, I'm looking forward to it!!) :-)

    Wednesday blessings ...

  8. Love your mums!
I put out fake ones this year because I'm just too tired of gardening to take on more plants.
I bought some last year and then planted them when I was done using them for decorations. They have taken over my garden and still haven't bloomed. Another reason I went with the fake ones.

  9. Gorgeous photos... how did I miss this post??? I too think we could be sisters! Wouldn't we have fun sitting in front of a fire chatting away. Our weather here in Indy is very similar to yours in Ohio!

Today is much cooler so fall is making it's way into my house this weekend!!! Yippee!
    God Bless!

Caramel apple candle sounds good too for fall, do you know what brand (Yankee, etc.?)
